Laying Technology is a robust and Automated Machine Solution for laying out fiber Tow/Roving to be used in Fiber Reinforced Composites. Automated Tailored Fiber Placement allows for the fiber to be laid out freely and selectively, thus combining Lowest Cost for Materials and Improved Product Characteristics.

Free Fiber Orientation Benefit = Peak Performance Composites
The free fiber orientation makes it possible to utilize the full tensile strength of the fiber during product design. (see below). The fiber can be laid out selectively and precisely in Circles, Curves and Arcs and with any angle of direction thus giving great freedom of design.

Local Fiber Reinforcements
For optimized stiffness and strength, local reinforcements are easily realized by selectively stacking layers of fibers on top of previous laid out fibers.

Lower Cost
By laying out Fiber Tow/Roving selectively and only where needed, Preform material cost may be reduced by as much as 75-90% compared to using braided, woven or knitted multi axial materials.

Minimizing Production Waste
By producing Near Net Shape Preforms any material scrap during preform production is minimized or totally avoided.

Material Combinations
Various types of materials can be mixed within a design. See picture to the right of an example with Carbon and Glass fiber.

Peak Performance Composites with Tailored Fiber Placement
The relative strength of a composite layer depends on the angle (α) between the Fiber Orientation and the Direction of the Load Force within the structure. By aligning the orientation of fibers with the direction of the load force, the relative strength of a composite can often be significantly improved. See below graph.
If the direction of the load force is more that 10 degrees off the actual fiber orientation, the load carrying capacity may be as low as 3-20% of the actual tensile strength of the fiber.
With LayStitch Machines and Tailored Fiber Placement, the fiber orientation can be precisely fine tuned and optimized for Peak Performance Composite Strength and Stiffness.
